WE ARE SO LAME

JUST CALL US THE QUEENS OF THE "OUTDATED" SINCE 2003...WE HAVE PLAYED AQUIRED A DRUMMER, PLAYED TORONTO PRIDE AND BASICALLY ALL OVER T.O.

VYLETZ
“It may have been done before, but not quite like this”

HAVE OPENED AND SHARED THE STAGE WITH SOME OF THE INDUSTRIES FINEST:

Tegan and Sara, Melissa Ferrick, Danny Michel, Emm Gryner, Kinnie Starr, Mad Violet, Kurt Swinghammer, The Hidden Cameras and more!!!

What once began as “Two girls, Two guitars” has now become “Three Girls, Two guitars and one hardcore percussionist."

Ottawa native Cheryl Christensen is brave enough to play along side these silly grrls. Currently a drummer for the grrl trio Sonic Aria, Cheryl decided to take on another project by joining vyletz. They met during a gig in Peterborough and upon Cheryl’s move to Toronto, she decided to take on another musical project. Surviving the vyletz initiation, Cheryl became a card carrying member.

THE HISTORY
Toronto’s vyletz put their own spin on the age-old tradition of the duo. Marrying sweet harmonies with fiery strumming, chelle and Liz created a sound all their own. Pressed to define just what that sound is, chelle said, “When people ask I usually say that we’re acoustic folk-rock with a pop sensibility... and proceed to laugh at that description! Whatever our -sound’ is, it’s nothing short of honest and passionate.”

Honesty and passion are the hallmarks of any vyletz song, something that was evident from the pair’s very first jam session. Both solo musicians at the time, chelle and Liz met at work and decided to join forces to form vyletz in 2000. Call it fate - like the best duos, vyletz brings together both singer-songwriters’ strengths to form a brilliant whole. chelle’s lilting vocals play beautifully off Liz’s growl, while Liz’s frenetic guitar playing is balanced by chelle’s careful melodicism. Throw in the gals’ penchant for spontaneous hilarity, and it’s a combination to be reckoned with.

That vibrant mix of music and mayhem was showcased to good effect on their 2001 debut, Galactic Cherry Delay. Recorded in a quick two-hour session, the album was initially intended as a demo, but the pair was so pleased with the recording’s fresh, off-the-floor vibe that they decided to release it as their debut album. “I’d call Galactic Cherry Delay raw, spontaneous, and dripping with powerful fun,” chelle says. “It was an experiment, a learning experience. Who would have thought that two hours of messing around in a studio would actually yield fruit? It was a lot of fun to put together.” Since then they have had an abundance of success with the “The Tom Foolery EP”

The proudly independent duo are savvy marketers of their own music, booking their own tours, maintaining their own website, and doing their own promotion. vyletz have been slowly but surely making their mark on the festival circuit, including Toronto, Ottawa, Kitchener/Waterloo pride, and the local music scene with key gigs at several notable clubs, including the Opera House, Rivoli, The Reverb, Hard Rock Cafe’s Club 279, C’est What, and the NOW Lounge.
The new and improved vyletz are going to head back into the studio this spring to capture their enhanced sounds.

vyletz continue to make inroads into the Toronto music scene, and burgeoning interest in their music has taken them recently to other cities as well. They’re excited about where their musical journey will take them, and are looking forward to learning and growing along the way. “We want to reach as many people as we can with our music - yet, we would probably rather play for a group of 500 than 5000. Our music tends to be intimate and we like to interact with our audience (such as the time chelle answered an audience member’s cell phone and we got the rest of the audience to shout things at him!),” Liz explains. “The most important thing is that we enjoy playing, because if we are having a good time, hopefully so is everyone else.”

Are you experiencing Mailing List Subscription Anxiety?!

Yeah no worries, we are too. It's been brought to our attention by several of you lovely people out there that the current method for joining our mailing list [as stated on our "email list" page] is totally unsuccessful. We know there's nothing more annoying than receiving a big fat DENIED email. And so we apologize for being so computer inept. But know that we are investigating the issue and hopefully we'll have some answers soon.

In the meantime, if you'd like to join our mailing list -- Cherrybomb -- please send us an email from the address you wish to be subscribed under and we'll add you on straight away!

Stupid technology. =P

Welcome to the new Vyletz site

After a long and arduous tweaking period, we are very proud to announce the launch of our newly designed website with brand spanking new features that are now running live for your interactive viewing pleasure!

We've got a new journal section which will have regular updates from both of us. This is where we'll be dishing out all the down and dirty details! It will definitely keep you coming back for more. And for those of you who enjoy eye candy, be sure to check out the new photo gallery as well.

It's hard to believe it's been over two years since we first got together to play music. But don't fret -- with a new album in the works and new tour dates for the coming months -- we've still got plenty of tricks up our sleeves.

So come back soon and come back often... We've only just begun!
